About John
“Service has been the constant thread of my life.” Mayor John M. Holbrook
A Life Built on Service
Long before John Holbrook became the Mayor of Lake Placid, he was a young American who answered his country’s call.
For six years, John served honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era — learning the values that would define his entire life. Discipline. Dedication. The understanding that leadership means putting the needs of others before your own. That the decisions you make affect real people. And that responsibility — true responsibility — is sacred. Those lessons never left him.

Finding Home
When John and his family made Lake Placid, Florida their home, he saw what he had always looked for — a community full of potential, full of good people, and full of opportunity to make a difference.
He got involved. He showed up. He listened. And he never stopped.
What began as a commitment to community service grew into 28 years of dedicated public service — including 20 years as your Mayor.
The Record
Under John’s leadership Lake Placid has:
✦ Secured nearly $40 million in water and sewer infrastructure investment ✦ Championed the Lake Placid Mural Society — putting our town on the national map ✦ Welcomed Amazon distribution center — bringing careers to our families ✦ Completed the Dow Hall community center renovation ✦ Broken ground on a new police department facility ✦ Launched a comprehensive Downtown Master Plan ✦ Built regional partnerships that deliver real results for real residents

The Man Behind the Mayor
Mayor John at an Autism charity event. He is a neighbor, a community builder, and a man who has dedicated his adult life to making Lake Placid the best version of itself.

He is known throughout Highlands County not for polished poetry, speeches or political maneuvering — but for showing up. Knowing people’s names. For answering his phone. For making decisions that put this community first — every single time.
Re-Elect Mayor John Holbrook
“Twenty eight years ago I made a commitment to Lake Placid. I have honored that commitment every single day since. On April 7th — I am humbly asking for the honor of continuing to do so.”
