Q:1 Mayor John’s response
You have served Lake Placid for many years in public service. What originally inspired you to step into leadership, and what has kept you committed to serving this community for so long?
Service has been the constant thread of my life. After six years in the United States Navy, including my time in Vietnam, I came home understanding what it truly means to be committed to something larger than yourself.
When my family and I made Lake Placid our home fifty-three years ago, I saw a community full of potential — good people who deserved leadership that would fight for them, listen to them, and actually get things done. That’s what drew me into public service here, and 28 years later, that’s exactly what still gets me up every morning.
I’ve watched this town grow, overcome challenges, and turn corners that people once thought were impossible. We’ve built something real here together — the Mural Society, new businesses on Interlake, major infrastructure investments, and now companies like Amazon choosing Lake Placid as a place to invest and create careers for our families.
What keeps me committed is simple — I’m not finished yet. There is still work to do, and the people of Lake Placid deserve a mayor who knows this town, knows its people, and has the experience to see our biggest opportunities through to completion.
